Table of contents for Temptation After Movement
- Temptation After Movement Pt.1
- Temptation After Movement Pt.2
Well I don’t know about you but I’ve started to notice a trend atleast in my life and I’m sure I’m not the only one that has this problem.
I’ve noticed that every time I make a declaration to God or I start changing I’m tempted the most. It’s not surprising when you think about it. I mean we are going after God in a new way that we never have before and the enemy is after us so he can knock us down off of that new rung.
Well I thought I would talk about it a little and show some stuff that can help us (including me).
Basically I am going to show some scripture first that I have found and talk about what I think it means and then I will include a second part on things we need to do to help us fight temptation.
Mark 4:15 (NCV)
15 Sometimes the teaching falls on the road. This is like the people who hear the teaching of God, but Satan quickly comes and takes away the teaching that was planted in them.
This I believe goes along with the point I was making that the devil is always trying to tempt us to sin after we make a movement in our walks with Christ.
Romans 6:12-14 (New Century Version)
12 So, do not let sin control your life here on earth so that you do what your sinful self wants to do.13 Do not offer the parts of your body to serve sin, as things to be used in doing evil. Instead, offer yourselves to God as people who have died and now live. Offer the parts of your body to God to be used in doing good.14 Sin will not be your master, because you are not under law but under God’s grace.
We need to focus on setting our life’s away from sin. Sin has no control over us if we are under God’s grace which is given to us when we ask Him to come into our life’s.
The best description I have ever heard of grace is this: “Grace is something that is given that we haven’t earned or deserve.” I don’t remember were I heard it but I thought it was really good.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (The Message)
13 No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.
I love how it shows that every temptation we have faced someone else has dealt with the same temptation. We are never alone in being tempted.
Another thing that stands out alot to me that I seem to always forget when I am tempted is that God will never let us be tempted by something we can’t get out of, but it also says he will always be there to help you come thru it which to me means that we need to turn to Him as our way out when we are tempted. He’s kinda like our best friend.
Hebrews 2:18 (English Standard Version)
18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Christ was tempted in every way we were. But He never gave into temptation and He always had the power of God to rebuke the devil. Because He has fought the same temptation as us He is able to help us thru our temptation.
James 1:2-4 (The Message)
2-4 Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.
We should see the positive side when we are tempted. We aren’t tempted when the enemy already has us but we are tempted when we are doing something for God and the enemy no longer has ahold of us. Being tempted and not giving in builds and shows perseverance and when you don’t give into it that form of temptation is going to start to lose it’s hold on your life.
Well those are the scriptures you can study and I will post part 2 soon with ways and things we need to do to fight back against temptation.
