Now the title of this post sounds a little well alot like potty talk but go with me as I explain what I mean by the title.
I was at our college bible study and God gave me an analogy and it was very like in your face I guess you could say and I wanted to talk about it.
This is the verse I will be using to help you understand what I am talking about.
Hebrews 5:12-14 (NLT)
12 You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word.[a] You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. 13 For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. 14 Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.
Basically what I wanna talk about today is maturity and I don’t mean physical maturity but spiritual maturity.
The aforementioned verse outlines spiritual maturity pretty well but there is somethings it doesn’t mention that I want to show you.
See Christianity in pure essence means Christ Like. Our common goal as Christians is to be more like Christ and to mature spiritually. Now when we first start our walk with God we know almost nothing so we have to start small and as we grow we start to be able to handle the bigger things in our walk with God. As you start walking with God you start by learning but as you grow you start not just learning what you don’t know but teaching and sharing what you already know.
As we grow we start to find area’s in our lives that need to grow more that we are neglecting or we just don’t see. But before we can even grow we all have to start and when we start we have to start on the little.
I want to go over some points God has given me to show that your on your way to spiritual maturity.
Points Of Spiritual Maturity
1. You aren’t greedy with what God has shown you.
You start sharing what God has shown you. As we pour out what we already know God pours into us what we don’t know cause we have made room for more.
We have taken what we already know and added it to our foundation but once its our foundation anymore we don’t need the tool there to keep working on the foundation so we pass it on.
2. You realize that your walk with Christ is a lifestyle and not a destination.
You start to realize that as you live on this earth you are always growing and always have imperfections in your life. You realize that walking with God is our life and we will never reach the destination were we don’t need to walk with Him anymore.
3. You realize the importance of the Bible.
Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)
12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
You understand that the word of God is life giving and has power over your life. You realize that as you read the word is exposes who you really are and what area’s in your life are not right.
4. You realize the power you have through God.
You realize that through God you have the power to change the world. You began to realize that God will use you to heal, raise, lead, share, encourage, motivate, etc….
5. You realize the importance of accountability.
You realize that it is almost impossible to anything or to stay on track with out the Help of God and without being accountable to another person. You realize that you need someone who knows what you are going through and wont say anything to anyone and you realize that you need someone that will be honest with you to keep you from going off track or falling into temptation.
and the final point is.
6. You constantly look and pray for ways to show others Christ.
You constantly are looking for ways you can show others Christ. It may be by counseling someone or helping someone in a time of need. It may be stepping out in the community and doing your part to make it better. You are always looking for what God can do with you to reach your community.
The Analogy
To close the post the analogy is like this.
We are like an infant we are constantly growing and learning. Now as we get off of milk and move to solids we have matured in one aspect of our life but while we are starting to eat bigger things and do bigger things we still poop in our pants.
Now we are going to constantly be pooing in our pants cause its how we get rid of the things we no longer need but they will constantly stay with us and build up and cause a burden if someone doesn’t change our diaper. We need to allow God to change our diaper so we aren’t burdened with the poo in our life’s and then we can work on getting out the rest of our poo that we still struggle with.
It may seem really gross that I was shown that analogy or even related with it but I know I’m not the only one that can relate to that.
Thanks for sticking through the potty talk ~ Jeremy Newton
P.S. I forgot to add a that we can be mature but you can be instantly immature by not being humble. When we talk about how mature we are and how much better we are all we are doing is showing immaturity. So be Humble and don’t think that you are ever better than someone =)

Alright, that’s pretty much how I feel about this blog entry. It is very well done, and very true! I was think about that verse (about the milk) the other day, and I’m glad you are able to shed some more light on it.
