Today I wanna bring up some attention to some social networks that you might have heard a little about or not much at all. I will tell you right now they are not Myspace or Facebook.

These sites are alot better for people who are into social networking or bloggers. I do use myspace but I will tell you right now myspace and facebook are not my favorite way to social network and I’m going to explain some other social networks that I use and like better.

The List

1. Stumbleupon

Stumble upon is a great way to find sites you haven’t ever been to or a great place to submit your site for others to find. I use it and get a decent amount on web traffic as long as people are stumbling my site. If only one person stumbles it does ok. So don’t go sending every post you’ve ever written to Stumble Upon. Be smart and send out your best content and encourage your readers if they like a post to stumble it so others may enjoy it also.

2. Digg

Many of you have probably heard of Digg but how many actually use it? Well it’s alot like stumble upon for finding great posts but personally I believe its easier to find and rate sites. Stumbleupon is nice and alot of people use it I’ve just had trouble with the interface at times but with Digg it’s all very straight forward and I love that. So try Digg to find some stuff that interest you or to just help Digg the articles here at Jesus Encounter or another blog you read.

3. Twitter

Twitter is basically the easiest way a site for status updates. You write less than 160 characters telling your friends what you are doing or are up to. But what makes it so cool is you can send updates from the web or an application on your computer but the best way is from your mobile phone. That’s right your mobile phone. Just tell twitter your phone number and when you text there number it will update your status with what you texted. I also use twitter to update people when I post a new blog post using a rss to twitter service.

4. Plurk

And I’ve saved the best for last. I stumbled upon Plurk today and I have to say it is the most addicting social network I have been to in awhile. It uses updates kinda like twitter but they do it different and better.

Plurk has a time line so you can see everyone’s updates all in one time line within about 5 hours, but one thing they do different is each update is basically a thread. You post an update and all your friends can respond to that update and basically it pops up a little chat room underneath the update and you can chat about it with your friends and other users.

Another thing that is really awesome about it is that the more Karma points you earn by adding friends or using the site you can upgrade your account and site’s color and layout. One thing I’ve noticed from being there less than 24 hours is that I’m socializing with bloggers that I normally don’t talk to or have ran into. It’s a great way to well micro blog and to just meet some amazing people.

So I have to say it. I’ve had my head somewhere else the last couple days besides blogging about what God is doing or on that topic. But it hasn’t gone totally in vein. I’ve been racking my brain as to how I can work my fundraiser to raise money for bible college. I’m trying anything to help get me there.

Well I had an idea thanks to Chris Davis at All The Nations. He mentioned a site that sold a bunch of pixed ads for a dollar and raised over a million dollars for college. Well it went through my head that I could totally do something like that. So that’s what I’m doing. I’m not running pixed ads though I will be running normal 125×125 ads.

But I’m doing it a little different. You can buy an ad space for $1 but most people can purchase ad space for a dollar so there are other category amounts you can choose. So if you pay more there’s going to be less people in that category and you will get more links.

Where you get your money’s worth is that I will keep this page up as long as Jesus Encounter is able to stay on the web. So you get ads for quite awhile. So $1 for an ad that never goes away sounds like quite the deal.

So I thought I would share this will all of you especially since this can help all you bloggers out there. So spread the news to the other bloggers you know about this so they can take part in this amazing offer.

Today I wanna talk about something called RSS. I have it on my blog and most blogs do, but how often does it go unnoticed or how often do people not know how to use it? That is what we are going into today as to help everyone understand the wonderful world of rss

What does RSS stand for?

Rss stands for “Real Simple Syndication”. Rss is something blogs and news sites you quite often. What rss does is keeps track of new topics and posts and people subscribe to that rss feed and can get all the updates automatically without having to come to the site manually to get all the updates.

You can use a feed reader to read rss feeds or an aggregator. They are the same but an aggregator is useally used to post other peoples rss feeds on your site so others can see what others are blogging or writing about.

What top 3 ways can I read rss?

There are so many ways to read an rss feed but I’m going to keep it simple and share with you web based solutions.

1. Newsgator

Newsgator has to be the best cause they offer a bunch of different ways for you to subscribe to rss feeds in a way that works best for you.

2. Google Reader

If you have a google acount for gmail,calendar,docs whatever it may be you can use this feature really easy.
Just go to the google reader site and log in to your google account and start adding rss feeds you wanna keep up with. So whenever you wanna stay up to date you can log in and all the feed updates will be there.

3. Email

Most blogs like here at Jesus Encounter they offer their feed to be used by Feedburner. What his does is keeps track of your feed in one place so people can keep track with any reader they are using. Well one option the have is to subscribe via email. So if you don’t wanna sign up for a reader or anything just enter your email and get that feeds updates to you via email.

Does Jesus Encounter use Rss?

Yes here at Jesus Encounter we use rss and constantly try to find new ways for you to stay up to date.

We offer normal rss feed via Feedburner which you can see on the right. —–>
We also offer Rss via Email on the right also so its very easy for you to stay up to date. ——>

But a way you may not be familiar with is Twitter. Jesus Encounter is on Twitter which we use as often as possible but the coolest thing about our twitter every time there is a new post it updates and lets everyone on twitter know. So you can sign up for twitter and stay up to date with us there or using mobile updates through twitter.
